I walked past a few straggling Obama supporters handing out flyers on my way to Brooklyn Tech to vote last night. The scene inside was subdued and sane, though I was saddened that I didn’t get to step inside an actual voting booth (because I’d only just recently registered, my name wasn’t yet on the official register and I had to fill in an affidavit vote. Though actually, now that I think about it, I registered like 4 or 5 months ago. How is it possible that it takes that long to update a database?) Afterwards, I searched in vain for a bar that would show the results with the sound on. The crowd at Mullanes, where I eventually settled at the bar after watching most of the returns at home, seemed like they were more interested in the basketball. In fact, when I asked the bartender, he confirmed this was true. Any other stories from the night? I’m not sure when the next big election event will be — I suppose the national convention? — but hopefully we can plan something a little further in advance for the many neighborhood folks who’d like to watch as a group (maybe by then Rope will have cable).
