(That’s row as in “restaurant row”.) Has anyone realized just how many churches there are on Lafayette Avenue over a distance of about 10 blocks? We counted 6 – from S Oxford up to Grand. Is our neighborhood really that religious?

There were once more. Old postcards show an enormous church with a rose window over stairs fronting on Lafayette on the northeast corner of Lafayette and St. James, which was torn down when the coop buildings went up. I believe there was also another kittycorner from Cadman Church at the corner of Lafayette and Clinton, which was demolished to make way for the coop buildings there.
Many of these were for the quite pious folks who settled here many years ago. A lot of community activity occurs in them now as well as spiritual activities.
After all, aren’t we know as the boro of churches?
According to Google maps search, Fort Green & Clinton Hill have about 50 Churches !

There are quite a few pious folks who have settled in recently too; many church-goers.
