Turns out our beloved Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church does more than just offer spiritual enlightenment. Chowhound tells us that after 11 am service on Sundays, the church offers a rare treat for coffee lovers: Rwandan coffee beans, which apparently are hard to come by. Nothing wrong with a church finding novel ways to raise money. It’s just lucky they’re not with the kind of religion that sees hot drinks as the devil’s liquid (or was that just a skit on 30 Rock).

I just purchased the best Rwandan coffee beans from Stumptown coffee roasters out of Portland, OR (used to live there, now I’m in the nabe). Not to take money out of the hands of the church – but if you can’t get it there, stumptown does it all free trade and sh*t. http://www.stumptowncoffee.com
The church gives back $7.50 per bag to the Rwandans. We only keep funds for processing shipments and make no profits on this effort. This is part of a ongoing project established by Selma Jackson, formerly of 4W , to establish new businesses and support for Rwandan women.
