Over on the Brooklynian forums, someone asks if there are any places to watch the Super Tuesday returns in the neighborhood. Which makes us wonder, why are there no political bars around? If you can be guaranteed a bar will show the biggest sports event of the year, why not the biggest political event? And if you do hear about one, find out in advance if they’ll have the sound up on the TV (as we learned the hard way the other day).
General Nathaniel Greene, our namesake. Read more about him
What were they thinking over at Night of the Cookers? A debate with no sound? That only works with action flicks.
I am going to call Mullane’s and see if they’d be willing to commit for Tuesday night (with sound)… If so… would people come?
I’d come to Mullane’s. Let us know what they say, we’ll post something here about it and let the neighborhood blogs know!
How about Rope on Myrtle? I only suggest because they have a big projector screen. Whether or not that’s just for movies, I don’t know. Keep us posted!
It’s pretty far out of the neighborhood but I think they’ll be showing the returns at Commonwealth in Park Slope. I did a little googling and found this site:
http://www.drinkingliberally.org
It’s a nationwide group of people decidedly on side of the political spectrum who gather for various political things. The Park Slope chapter meets at Commonwealth (5th ave/12th st) which is a pretty decent bar and off the F so not too bad. A quick Bergen transfer from the F or Jay St from the G. That being said if something can be worked out in the hood all the better.
Hey there,
So… mullanes is still up in the air… i need to ‘check with the bartender on tuesday’ to see whether that person will play the returns with the volume on. apparently i can’t do that until 7pm when they get to work. I will do so but… that’s obviously a bit late. I recommend stopping by to check… I have been promised that they’ll play returns on one of the tvs but that I can’t be guaranteed volume. So we’ll see.
RE: rope – i called them too. they were super helpful. they’re getting cable and were very very supportive about showing this sort of stuff w/volume on the big screen (though, i do hope that they’ll also require dog owners to keep dogs on leashes when they have events… who are those people? but i digress).
My other ideas for the future are:
1. Alibi they do show the news w/volume regularly… but the tv is small.
2. The new place Kif (where liquors was) they don’t seem to have a phone # yet but i did notice they were having a superbowl party and had a massive tv screen.
3. Red Bamboo which also has a huge tv screen.

Plus then you’d have to be at Alibi one of the least friendly dive bars I’ve ever been to.
