A lot of local folk were on hand last night for the first meeting towards creating a Fort Greene/Clinton Hill based food co-op (I counted 42 at one point). There was a lot of discussion about whether the co-op should go towards being a working or dues-paying operation, and with the general opinion favoring making a working co-op (i.e., membership entails work shifts). It was a productive start, and attendees also signed up for different committees — business, real estate, and membership/outreach. It was a varied and very interested group, and I imagine the next meeting (Feb. 7) will be even bigger.
