
A few people in the neighborhood (including the people who write this blog) are looking at forming a food co-op in Fort Greene. The first meeting about this is happening tonight and we thought we’d take a look at produce prices on Fresh Direct and compare them to with the food co-op in Park Slope. Everyone seems to have an opinion about that food co-op, but it’s hard to argue with low prices for good food. There’s just one catch: you have to work for it! Yup, make no mistake: To get prices that low, you’ve got to go with the truly cooperative model, where everyone who shops there also works there. If you go the “cooperative only in name” route, there’s no way to offer such low prices.
